Multiple French cities see lockdown rioting (Video)

The anger and tension over the perceived length of the French lockdown is now spilling out in multiple cities across the nation. Whereas we already informed you yesterday about the four days of cat-and-mouse games between the Paris police and the residents of the northern suburbs, it now appears that other clashes have also broken out in Strasbourg, Bordeaux, Versailles and Lyon (if reporting in the Guardian is to be believed).

In any case, French social media is filling up with videos of youngsters throwing fireworks at police stations or setting fire to cars;

Over in Lyon, youths who trashed bus shelters and burned rubbish bins, reminded onlookers that their acts were due to the police brutality perceived over the weekend in Villeneuve-la-Garenne.

There, on Saturday, police tried to stop a man on a motorbike from fleeing them and apparently, as rumor has it, opened a car door on purpose so he would fall.

The 30-year-old unnamed man is currently in hospital and is calling from calm after witnessing on French media what his action has had as a result. He stated: “I understand that you’ve smashed up cars. I ask you to go home and calm down.”

Euronews reporter Ms Anelise Borges claims that the extended lockdown is not helping the tensions. She said: “It is a serious situation. French President Emmanuel Macron is said to be monitoring things himself. I spoke to a local elected official a few moments ago. He told me he got a few calls from the Élysée Palace to check on how authorities here in the suburbs are coping.”
